JumpBox Cloud Gear - Service Retired - Please see current JumpBox Offerings.

JumpBox Cloud Gear has been replaced by the Amazon EC2 support included with JumpBox Pro and Business subscriptions.

The following is a brief tutorial to walk you through the process of launching a JumpBox on the Cloud Gear service. It presumes you've already created a free JumpBox account and signed up for the Cloud Gear service. There is also a video version of this tutorial available here.

Once you've signed up and you're ready to launch a JumpBox on EC2 you'll need to login to your Amazon Web Service Console.

Next you'll need to configure a security group in which to run your JumpBox.

Create a new security group and call it "JumpBox"

Add the necessary ports for your application. A master list of ports used by all JumpBoxes can be found here.

Now you're ready to launch your instace. Click the "Instances" tab and then click the "Launch Instance" button.

This brings up a list of available AMI's. Click the "Community" tab and filter it to just the JumpBox AMI's by putting "cloud-gear" in the search box. Once you find the one you want click the corresponding "Select" button for it.

You can skip the Key Pair step.

And you can also skip the firewall step.

You're almost there. Now specify the number of instances you wish to launch (1), choose the small instance type, no key pair and select both the default security group as well as the JumpBox group you created. Click "Launch" to launch your instance.

Picture9.png

It will show you this screen which tells you your instance is booting. Click the link to view the status.

Picture10.png

It will have a status of "Starting up" for about a minute. Once it's ready it will turn green and say "running."

Picture11.png

Now you simply need to highlight the record and scroll down to find the "Public DNS address." Copy that link, enter it into a web browser and then configure your JumpBox as you normally would.

Picture12.png

Note that once your instance is running it will continue to run until you shut it down. If you forget and accidentally leave JumpBoxes running you will be billed for those hours. To shut down an instance find it in your dashboard click the Terminate button. It will convert to status "Shutting down" and eventually "Terminated" once it's completely off.
